Microsoft finally released the Windows 11 operating system in 2021 after much anticipation. After two years, the company has resolved many of the issues that frustrated users upon its initial release, and they have also started working on new features. However, today Microsoft announced that support for some versions of Windows 11 will be discontinued.
Support ending for the initial versions of Windows 11!
When Microsoft initially launched Windows 11, it faced a wave of complaints from users. There were issues with certain programs, as well as numerous frustrating problems throughout the software. Over time, the company addressed these issues, and the user base of the operating system grew significantly. However, the latest announcement from Microsoft seems to disappoint users once again, reminiscent of the early days.
Recently, Microsoft announced on its official website that security update support will be discontinued for the initial versions of Windows 11. This decision did not receive a warm reception from users.
Here are the Windows 11 versions for which security update support will be discontinued:
- Windows 11 Home – 21H2
- Windows 11 Pro – 21H2
- Windows 11 Pro for Workstations – 21H2
- Windows 11 Pro Education – 21H2
According to the information shared by Microsoft, starting from October 10, 2023, the 21H2 version of Windows 11 will no longer receive security updates. Users who wish to receive security support will need to upgrade to a higher version of Windows 11.
The reasons behind Microsoft’s unexpected decision are unknown. However, considering that the company has been consistently notifying Windows 10 users to transition to Windows 11, this could be a measure to accelerate the adoption of newer versions.
